My dad once told a story possibly relating to a trip to hospital, how on the return journey he walked in front of the car because inside the car it was impossible for the driver to see out the window. My dad had to guide them through Nottingham fog to get home. This would have been in the early / mid 1960s I think. The fog would have been smog.
